Computation and Data Resource Exchange

Visualization Services

From displaying scientific simulations to presenting data in new ways, visualization techniques have become an integral part of research. The University of Virginia currently has three labs that provide unique resources and services for visualization:

ARCS Viz Lab

The ARCS Viz Lab provides resources for computation, visualization, and simulation of scientific data, including analysis of medical imaging. Equipped with an HTC Vive VR headset, two Touch Tables, a 7.76 Mpixel Viz Wall, and two high-end graphics workstations, the Viz Lab allows researchers explore the power of visualization in research and education.
Available to UVa faculty, staff, and students.

Insight Lab

The Insight Lab in the School of Architecture provides resources and expertise for data visualization, with D3 and other custom web-enabled data apps, as well as simulation tools for 2D and 3D visual / spatial and geographic analysis. Equipped with state-of-the-art computer workstations, the Sandbox cluster of new and experimental software, several SMART Board interactive screens, a full-wall traditional whiteboard lounge, flexible conference, teaching and research spaces, and the multi-touch SMART Table, the Lab is a testing ground for the newest technologies and their most advanced and innovative applications.

Robertson Media Center

The Robertson Media Center provides resources for digital imaging, audiovisual production, 2D and 3D animation, visualization and delivery of media content. Equipment available for checkout includes video and audio recorders, light kits, microphones, and other items available on a first-come, first-served basis from the third floor service desk. The computer stations in the RMC G-Lab can be reserved in advance for three hour blocks of time, using the online reservation system.
Available to UVa faculty, staff, and students.
